Forbidden Feasts

First generation Cuban-American, David Guas, chef and explorer, was driven to find the truth about his family’s tumultuous past and through that exploration his dedication persisted in the creation of his own docu-series, Forbidden Feasts. The never seen before footage retraces the path of his exiled Cuban family with only the help of historic photos and his father's recount of his childhood from over 58 years ago. Each episode is a portal to the culture of his culinary heritage - following the footsteps of David's father, grandfather, and great-uncle, Dr. Rafael Guas Inclan - a lifelong member of the liberal party of Cuba, the youngest person elected to the Cuban House of Representatives, and the first elected Mayor of Havana just before the Revolution. Born and raised in Cuba until the age of 12, Mariano Guas, David's father - joins as an integral part of the adventure. Together, they unravel the storied past of their family's rich Cuban political history and share the ancestral dishes that provide a lifeline between generations. Creating something from almost nothing with the passion of the Cubans was a greater sensation than David had ever experienced. The sacrifices the Guas Family have endured is understood by the uncertainty of the Cuban people today.
